Leslie E. Smith "Gene" or "Smitty", age 89, of Kettering, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 17, 2017.
Gene was born in Knoxville, TN on August 8, 1927 to the late William & Dolly Smith.
He retired from Delco Products in 1982. Gene enjoyed going to the Kettering Rec Center.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, J. Will and Jessie.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Fern Smith; sons, Larry (Linda) Smith, Victor (Melinda) Smith and Will Smith; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bobby (Jean) Smith and Mary Janeway; and many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Hospice of Dayton for their loving care.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 4-7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). The service will follow at 7pm. Gene will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery in Beavercreek on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 1pm.
