Leonard E. Sturgill, born June 8, 1934, in Clinchport, Virginia, passed away on April 17, 2026, in Flower Mound, Texas. He was a dedicated husband and father who retired from General Motors, subsequently continuing his career at Kroger. Leonard’s steadfast work ethic was a hallmark of his life, reflecting the values instilled in him throughout his upbringing and education.
Throughout his life, Leonard was a devoted member of the Dayton Baptist Temple and later at Grace Baptist Church of Kettering, Ohio, where he attended for many years, nurturing his faith and community ties. His involvement in the church was an important aspect of his personal life and provided him with a strong spiritual foundation.
Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Buna (Micales) Sturgill, parents, Charlie and Hazel (Berry) Sturgill; his brothers, Charlie, Elmer lee, Bill, and Jack Sturgill; his sisters, Lena Kate Sturgill, and Mary Lou Lane; and his infant son Mark Edward and infant daughter Rebecca Ann Sturgill. He is survived by his son, Paul G. Sturgill, brothers Robert Sturgill (Faye), Wayne Sturgill (Sherry) and Larry Sturgill (Sherry) and sisters Nell Barrett (James), Patsy Rhoton (Audley) and Linda Hammonds (Don), several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
Services to honor Leonard’s life will be held on May 1, 2026, at the Grace Baptist Church of Kettering, located at 2901 Galewood Street, Kettering, Ohio, 45420. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Leonard will be laid to rest at David's Cemetery. These gatherings will offer family, friends, and community members an opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate the legacy of a man who impacted many through his work, faith, and family.
Leonard E. Sturgill’s life was marked by his commitment to his career, his faith, and his family. His contributions and dedication will be long remembered by those who knew him personally and professionally. He leaves behind a legacy of perseverance and devotion that continues in the lives of his surviving family and the community he cherished.
