Lawrence Neil Killian

December 27, 1938 — January 23, 2021

Lawrence Neil Killian went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2021 at Kettering Medical Center.

He was born in Berwick, PA on December 27, 1938 to Lawrence and Thelma Killian. He graduated from Shickshinny High School with honors and left home to attend Case Western Reserve University. After one year of school, he began working for SOHIO (Standard Oil of Ohio) in research. While there, he wrote five papers which led to patents. In 1960 he co-authored a patent for Biobor JF with Dr. Richard DeGray. Biobor JF is a fuel additive still in demand today. After working at SOHIO, he began pursuing a education degree at Cedarville College. While there, he met his future bride, Lois Kennedy, and they were married on August 15, 1964.

In 1967, he received a National Science Foundation Grant to attend Syracuse University for a Master's Degree in Education. He was then offered a position of professor in Science Education at Cedarville College where he taught for 24 years. While teaching full-time, he also began a PhD program in BioMedicine at Wright State University in 1981 which he completed in 1992.

In 1992, he began teaching Anatomy and Physiology full-time at Clark State University. During this time he was affectionately given the nickname, "Killer Killian" for his tough courses and high expectations. After teaching in the classroom for decades, he transitioned to teaching all of his classes online until he retired in 2015. After retirement, he received an unexpected offer and was hired as a consultant for Biobor JF, the fuel additive he had patented decades before.

He was a loving and generous father to their children: Tad Killian (Emily) of Dayton, Kristl Kirk (Matt) of York, England, Erin Johnson (Scott) of Louisville, KY, and Courtney Feinour (Jon) of Xenia, OH. His grandchildren Hannah, Nate, and Ben Kirk and Brennan and Blake Johnson call him Papa. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Esther Kamphausen and Peggy Schneider and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger sister, Kay Featherman.

As a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 50 years, he served the Lord in various capacities, including teaching. For the last 13 years, he faithfully attended Cardiac Rehab at Greene Memorial Hospital where he enjoyed the community of many friends. He loved classical music, travel, studying his genealogy, and Yankee's baseball.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church in his honor.

A funeral service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1120 S. Detroit St., Xenia, OH 45385 on Tuesday February 2, 2021 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 am.
