Larry Wade Young, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully into the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Kettering Health Main Campus, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on June 20, 1939, in Chillicothe, Ohio, Larry's life was marked by his unwavering faith, deep commitment to family, and a passion for serving his community.
Larry graduated from Greenon High School, and upon graduation joined the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Following his service to his country, he then obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Music from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and earned his Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling from Xavier University. While at Miami University, he was actively involved in the Men's Glee Club, fostering a lifelong passion for music that remained an integral part of his identity.
Larry devoted 17 years of his professional life as a music teacher and choir director with the Middletown City Schools, where he inspired countless students with his love for music. After his time in education, he transitioned into the construction business, becoming a respected business owner until his retirement.
Larry was a man of strong faith and a prayer warrior, being a longstanding member of Newspring Church, where he touched many lives with his kindness and support. Those who knew him appreciated his friendly demeanor and wonderful sense of humor, characterized by honesty and integrity—even when it came at his own expense. His dedication to community service was evident in his unassuming efforts behind the scenes, showcasing his faithfulness and dependability.
Beyond his professional endeavors, while his children were young, Larry dedicated many years as a 4-H leader, helping guide and nurture the next generation. He was also a member of the local German Band in Middletown, where he delighted in playing various instruments. Larry had a profound passion for advocating for the unborn and supporting the Community Pregnancy Center in Middletown, Ohio. He was also actively involved with the Franklin Food Pantry. Additionally, he enjoyed exploring genealogy and had meticulously created a family tree that traced back to the 1600s.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Patricia B. Young; children Steve (Keri) Young, Greg (Kathy) Young, Jackie (Chris) DeBrecht, and Scott (Inda) Young; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous extended family members and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hoyt and Margaret Young, and his brother, David Young.
Larry's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his family, for whom he provided unwavering love and support throughout his life. His legacy of kindness, faith, and service will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 10 am to 12 pm at Newspring Church (1150 S. Main Street, Springboro, OH 45066). Funeral service will begin at 12 pm. Larry will be laid to rest in Londonderry Cemetery in Chillicothe, Ohio.
