Larry J. Staples "Cap'n Lar"

Lawrence Joseph Staples, affectionately known to all as "Cap'n Lar," passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on May 29, 1946, in Springfield, Ohio, Larry lived a life full of honor, adventure, and deep connections with the people around him.
A proud United States Marine, Larry served his country with bravery and distinction during the Vietnam War.
For many years, Cap’n Lar lived out his true passion on Fort Myers Beach, Florida. He was happiest on the water boating, watching the sunset, and frequenting local beach bars where he was always ready to swap a story. Larry was the ultimate host, happily providing beverage service to anyone who stopped by “The Blue Palms". He had a unique gift for making everyone feel welcome and was famous for handing out custom nicknames to his closest friends.
Above all, Larry loved his family. He was a devoted father to his daughters and a doting grandfather to his grandsons. He never missed a chance to celebrate them, famously giving full, enthusiastic birthday serenades to his grandsons on their special days. Larry truly was the life of the party, bringing joy, laughter, and a bit of captain's flair wherever he went.
Per his wishes, his family will be holding a private celebration of life, and you are encouraged to do the same in his honor. In the words of Cap'n Lar: "Party hard and treat your servers well."
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dayton Hospice to honor his memory.
