Larry Edward Michaelis passed Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 2:45p.m. at his home at Brookdale Kettering in Beavercreek, OH due to complications from Parkinson's disease and Alzheimers. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Michaelis was born on January 12, 1935 in Jackson, MI to Rudolph and Luetta (Kolbe) Michaelis. As a child Larry moved from Michigan to Ohio and lived with his uncle and aunt, Karl and Helen Kolbe, in Okolona for several years. Larry graduated from Libby High School in Toledo, Ohio in 1952.
Larry married Wanda Good on May 12, 1956 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Toledo. They had two children, James Karl (Jim) and Margaret Joan (Peggy Jo) and lived in Sylvania, OH. He worked for the F.M. Good Insurance Agency for over 20 years as Vice President and sales manager.
Larry married Betty Fagan on November 29, 1986 at Olivet Lutheran Church in Sylvania. Larry always enjoyed travel, boating, fishing, 10 years of Scouts and photography, and was also active at Olivet Lutheran Church while residing in Sylvania. After retiring from the insurance business, he and his wife, Betty took up camping and traveled looking for lighthouses to photograph. In 1988 they moved to Miamisburg, OH. He joined Epiphany Lutheran Church, Dayton, Ohio. He continued with his photography for many years and was a member of the Town & Country Fine Art Gallery.
Mr. Michaelis is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Marian of Perrysburg, OH; half-sister, Delores (Michael) Schnelft of Michigan; son, Jim of Pensacola, FL, and Jim's sons, Adam (Sally) of Baltimore, MD, Peter (Jessica) of Homestead, FL, Jonathan of Ft. Myers, FL; daughter, Peggy Jo of Gulf Shores, AL and her daughter, Michelle Renee Fending of Westminster, CO; and his first wife, Wanda Bottrell of Toledo, OH also survives.
Larry will be sorely missed by his wife, Betty of 30 years and his large step-family of children, Barbara Clifford of Springfield, OH, Karen (Stan) Geist of Dayton, OH, Edward (Deb) Russell of Urbana, OH; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Michaelis will be cremated and a "Celebration of his Life" service will be held at a later date. Any donations may be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church, Dayton, OH.
