Larry Hawkins, born on October 12, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio, departed this world on December 3, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio. He was a strong man of unique character; whose private nature welcomed a circle of close friends into his life. Larry possessed a rich sense of humor and a no-nonsense attitude that drew people in, while his big heart seemed to know no bounds.
Larry serviced in the U.S. Army, a calling that reflected his dedication and sense of duty. In his personal style, Larry shone brightly; he had a knack for dressing sharply and loved the finer things in life.
He found joy in the little things, whether it was sharing a laugh, listening to music, watching football, helping the people he loved, or giving someone a thoughtful gift—like those moments when he spotted something you might like while shopping. Larry was incredibly generous, always looking out for his sisters-each of whom he shared a unique bond with. He was survived by his sisters, Jessie Talley, Beverly Hawkins-King, Sharon (O'Dell) Hooks, and Diane Hawkins Jaynes; and many extended family members, including nephews, nieces, and great-nieces and great-nephews,
He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Dee Montigue; mother, Mary Hawkins-Williams; sister, Mary Lou Hawkins-Madison; and brothers-in-law Dewey Talley, Carl King, LaGrant Jaynes, and Willie Madison.
Larry's belief in God guided him through life, and his impact on those around him will be felt for years to come. While he might have preferred to keep his life private, his legacy—marked by friendship, generosity, and a deep love for his family—will resonate in our hearts. Rest in peace, Larry. Your way of caring for those you loved will never be forgotten.
Services will be held privately for the family.
