Listen to Obituary

Larry Crawl, a man whose presence was as striking as his character, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, in Kettering, Ohio. Born on July 28, 1949, in Harvey, West Virginia, Larry lived a life defined by strength, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

From an early age, Larry exhibited a remarkable intellect and an outspoken nature that made him both a mentor and a cherished friend to many. His wit and humor were shining qualities that brought joy and laughter into the lives of those around him. With his very distinct, handsome look, he carried himself with a quiet confidence that left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know him.

Larry’s talents extended beyond his mind and spirit—he was a gifted handyman whose ability to fix nearly anything was nothing short of legendary. Gardening was one of his great joys, a passion that allowed him to nurture life and beauty in the world around him, reflecting the care he gave to his family and community.

He was a devoted provider, standing as a pillar of strength for his beloved wife of 57 years, Krista Crawl; the woman he chose and considered to be the perfect mother for his children. Together, they built a life rich in love and shared memories. Larry’s legacy is carried forward by his children: Tamla Bruton (Richard, Jr.), Maori Crawl, Toi Gray (Derrell), Draco Crawl, and Teia Beasley (Dylan), each of whom inherited his resilience and spirit. His heart was profoundly touched by the laughter and footsteps of fourteen grandchildren—Simone, Kyree, Lamonte, Tyrell, Todja, Malachi, Heaven, Frances, Ronald, Taygan, Ase, Cameron, Kuandaa and Laini — who brought immense joy to his later years. The family’s blessing continued with six great-grandchildren, with another precious arrival on the way, adding to the tapestry of love Larry wove throughout his lifetime.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Eugene and Helen Crawl, who undoubtedly shaped the foundations of his character, and his siblings, Claude and Carolyn, whose memories he cherished deeply.

Larry’s life was a testament to the power of love, wisdom, and an unyielding spirit. His journey may have ended, but the stories he shared, the lessons he imparted, and the love he sowed will continue to blossom in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a world better for his having been in it, and a family determined to carry his legacy forward with honor and pride.

At his request, Larry's family will hold a private celebration of his life at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio.  To share a memory of Larry or to leave his family a special message, please sign the online guestbook provided.
