Lanny Alan Blackburn, born January 18, 1951, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Fairborn, Ohio. A man known for his quick wit and a heart full of love, Lanny touched the lives of many with his humor and devotion.
Lanny graduated from Avon Grove High School in 1968. His love for music was evident throughout his life, especially his passion for playing the mandolin and his deep appreciation for bluegrass music. Those who knew Lanny remember him fondly for his ability to bring people together through his music and his laughter.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Suzanne Blackburn, who stood by his side through the years. Family meant everything to Lanny. He is survived by his three children: Brandy Weinmann and her husband Tom, Carrie Testa and her husband Jake, and Stephanie Melhado and her husband Donny. Lanny was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Eve, Maizey, Natalie, Bane, and Sasha. He also leaves behind his sister, Patti Duvall and her husband, Delmer, and brother, Larry Blackburn and his wife, Karen; father-in-law, James Morrill; mother-in-law, Claire Morrill; brothers-in-law Keith and Jim Morrill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lanny was also known for his love of coffee, the stronger the better. He also loved his cats, finding comfort and friendship in their company. Lanny enjoyed traveling and taking cruises alongside his beloved wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Josephine Blackburn, and his sister, Linda Rowe.
Lanny’s life was marked by simple pleasures—a good tune on his mandolin, the company of family, the quiet companionship of his cats, and a strong cup of coffee. He will be remembered as a man who cherished his family, shared laughter freely, and lived with a steady, genuine spirit. Those who had the privilege to know him will carry his memory with respect and fondness.
