Kathryn S. Wald, age 96 of Centerville, Ohio died July 15, 2025. Kathy was born December 20, 1928 to the late Mary and Carl Sonderman. She grew up in North Carolina and graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1946, and from St. Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1950. Kathy taught at Julienne High School in 1950 in Dayton, where she met Ben Wald. She and Ben were married on June 26, 1951, in Wilmington, North Carolina, and had a very happy life together until his death in 2005.
After having four sons and one daughter and getting them started in grade school, Kathy went back again to teaching, this time teaching mathematics at Alter High School for nine years. Kathy then went back to school attending University of Dayton Law School graduating in 1980, then practicing law in the Dayton area, at the same time keeping up with and enjoying the expanding family of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kathy is survived by her sons: David of Dayton, Stephen of Columbus, Kenneth (Patty) of Milwaukee, and Gregg of Centerville; her daughter Barbara O'Neill (Steve) of Lebanon, Ohio; her grandchildren: Nellie and Caridad Wald Of Milwaukee, Patrick Wald (Ashley) of Columbus, Cara Daulton (Matt) of Bellbrook, Katie O'Neill of New York City, and Maura O'Neill of Dayton; her great grandchildren: Trinity, Austyn, Dylan, Lakyn, Nazanin, and Phoenix of Milwaukee, Catherine and Jase of Bellbrook, and Parker, Owen and Maya of Columbus. Survivors also include nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Dayton, Chicago, and Maryland areas.
The family would like to thank the employees at Hospice of Dayton and the Bethany Retirement Community for their wonderful care of Kathy.
The family will receive friends at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd, Kettering, OH 45429, from 10-11 AM on Saturday, September 27th, followed by Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul or to a charity of your choice.
