Kathryn Marie Rehmert, lovingly known to so many as Kathy, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, in Beavercreek, Ohio, at the age of 77. Born on May 19, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio, Kathy grew up surrounded by family, laughter, and the kind of love she spent her life nurturing in others.
Kathy was a 1967 graduate of Wilbur Wright High School—a mark of accomplishment she held dear, and a place where many first recognized her for the quick wit and warmth that would become her lifelong trademarks. It is impossible to remember Kathy without recalling her playful sense of humor, a spirit both funny and mischievous, and her generous kindness that seemed to know no limits. She delighted in the beautiful paradox of being both wonderfully goofy and quietly studious. Artistic and clever, Kathy possessed a unique flair—always ready with a card game or a lighthearted challenge for friends and family gathered at the table, well-deserving of her reputation as a “card shark.”
Her greatest pride and joy, however, was always her family. Together with her devoted husband, David, Kathy built a home and legacy filled with laughter, open doors, and the wisdom only a loving heart can offer. She called herself lucky for raising her son and daughters; she cherished her son Jimmy, fondly called “Jimmy the Cop,” and his partner Jenny, daughter Shellie and son-in-law Aaron, and daughter Fran. Her pride overflowed in the presence of her grandchildren, Brandon (Kirsten) Fannin, Lex Fannin, Austin Beneke, Gabe Fannin, Spencer Mullins, Cooper Mullins, Lauryn Beneke, and Ryder Mullins—they were the stories she counted as her proudest accomplishments, the pictures she held nearest to her heart.
Kathy’s brothers and sisters formed a tight embrace around her life: Christi Hallstorm and brother-in-law Dale, Diana Fretch and Richard, Carmen Hickey and Dave, her brother Patrick Green and sister-in-law Carla, and Tina Rasnic and Curt. Each brought their own shade to Kathy’s canvas, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and countless friends who all felt the uniqueness of her affection.
As a preschool child care teacher, Kathy shared her gifts with generations of children, leaving a legacy not only in her own family but in countless young lives shaped by her care and encouragement.
Kathy’s life was also shaped by lasting love for those who have gone before her: her cherished parents, George and Rita Green, beloved daughter Jennifer Rehmert, brother Paul Green, and sister Linda Grubb. Their memories lived on in her heart, recalled often in stories and smiles.
