Kathleen "Kathy" Kay, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on December 6, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, Kathleen was known for her sassy humor, unwavering faith in God, and an infectious spirit that brightened the lives of everyone around her.
Kathleen cherished her family deeply, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Chrystal Williams, who shared many joyful moments with her. Kathleen also took great pride in her three grandchildren, Ashley Kay, Izabelle Ziemba, and Gabriel Ziemba, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Roman Ledbetter and Finnick Ziemba.
She is welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Olaf and Margareth Mathisen; her beloved husband, John "Johnny" Kay and her great-grandson, Riley Ledbetter.
She shared a special bond with her sister, Irene (John) Demm, and was a fun and loving aunt to her niece, Rosemary (Steve) Budrecki. Kathleen’s warmth extended beyond her immediate family to the many dear friends she made throughout her life.
Kathleen had a passion for various hobbies that added joy to her days. She was an active member of her church, where her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She enjoyed playing BINGO and loved the thrill of shopping adventures, but it was the simple joys and camaraderie she experienced while attending church and playing games that truly filled her heart. Kathleen also had a penchant for sewing and quilting, skillfully creating beautiful pieces that reflected her artistic flair. One of her favorite pastimes was riding on the motorcycle with her daughter, creating exhilarating memories that they will hold dear forever.
Butterflies held a special significance for Kathleen, symbolizing transformation and joy. This gentle reminder of nature's beauty mirrored her own vivacity and zest for life.
