Katherine Rose Short, known affectionately as Kathy, passed away on April 17, 2026, in her hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Born on August 26, 1949, she lived a life marked by love, unwavering dedication to family, and a spirit that always put others before herself.
Kathy graduated from Holmes High School, Class of 1968, carrying the values of kindness and perseverance she held dear throughout her life.
Professionally, Kathy devoted thirty years to service at Milano's on Brown Street and later dedicated a decade to food service at Sinclair before retiring. Her work ethic was as steadfast as her character, and she was deeply respected by those who knew her through these roles.
Kathy's personality was a beautiful blend of stubborn determination, loving kindness, and the heart of a peacemaker. She consistently put the needs of others before her own, often going without so her loved ones would never go without. Her warmth, care, and gentle spirit left an indelible mark on her family and friends alike.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—playing bingo, cards, and games, watching game shows, and most importantly, spending precious time with her cherished family. Kathy also enjoyed camping, embracing the tranquility of nature and moments of togetherness it offered.
Her surviving family members carry forward her legacy of love: her devoted daughter, Kimberly Stovall (Douglas Cunnagin); her treasured grandchildren: Brandi (Douglas) Hoff and Bradley Stovall; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Logan, Connor, and Alivia; sisters: Violet (Dick) Feinauer, Virginia (Lin) Chaney and Brenda (Jeffrey) Mutter; brothers: Keith Short, Harry (Louise) Brockmeier Jr, and Kirk Brockmeier; nieces: Krista Short, Keri Short, Lindsey Mutter and Elise Brockmeier; nephews: Kenneth (Darlene) Short Jr, Kevin Short, Kristopher (Rachel) Short, Clint (Kimberly) Feinauer, Brian (Jessica) Feinauer, Timothy (Beth) Hill, Michael (Angela) Hill, Kurt Short, Kyle (Trisha) Short and Brett (Joey) Mutter; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her dear mother and step-father, Bessie and Harry Brockmeier Sr.; her father, Ance Short; grandparents: Polly and Allen North; uncle, Harold North; aunts: Marie Hall, Evelyn Johnson, and Edna Roach; her brother, Kenneth Short Sr; granddaughter, Angela Stovall; and nephews: Jeff and Danny.
