Karen Faye Dexter, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on March 31, 1935, in Dayton, Ohio, Karen lived a life full of love, dedication, and joy.
Karen spent many fulfilling years in her role at Office Depot, where she retired after her successful career as a corporate buyer. Her professional life was complemented by an active involvement in her community and a deep commitment to her family. A proud graduate of Kettering Fairmont, class of 1953, she had a vibrant school life that included serving as a class officer and participating in sports such as basketball and field hockey.
Family gatherings were a cherished aspect of Karen's life. She created countless joyful memories, hosting pool parties and cookouts that brought loved ones together. Her fierce protection of her children reflected her unwavering love and devotion as a mother. Raising her four children—sons Richard A. (Lillian) Dexter and Douglas K. (Jeanne) Dexter, and daughters Connie (David) Spicer and Holly Smith—was counted among her proudest accomplishments.
In addition to her family life, Karen was an avid bowler and formed many friendships through her participation in leagues at Woodman Lanes. She also embraced her interests in hobby club, bridge, and card games, often playing with family during the weekends. A true lover of literature, Karen found much joy in reading, further enriching her life and the lives of those around her.
Karen is survived by her beloved family, including her sons Richard A. Dexter and Douglas K. Dexter, daughters Connie Spicer and Holly Smith, along with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy of love. She is also remembered by her sister Phyllis Schulke and sister-in-law Carol Muller, along with many friends who valued her friendship throughout the years.Karen was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Ronald H. Dexter, her son Jeffrey E. Dexter, her grandson Paul H. Kinser, her son-in-law Todd Smith, her brother Richard Rutherford, Sr., and sister Shirley Vannorsdall. The impact she made on the lives of her family and friends cannot be understated, and her memory will forever be held close in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Karen and Ron later in the summer; please check for service dates.
