Julie Ann Duhl, a vibrant soul who touched the hearts of many, was born on January 17, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio. She passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2026, in her hometown, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and creativity.
A parishioner at St. Anthony in Dayton, Julie had recently returned to her faith community and was grateful for the comfort it brought her. She devoted her life to making memorable experiences for her family and friends, showing a deep love that forged lasting bonds among those fortunate enough to know her.
Julie’s creative talents shone brightly through her hobbies. She enjoyed writing, creating art, and exploring her passion for genealogy, which revealed stories from the past that intrigued her. She loved talking about her family’s history, visiting old gravesites, and connecting with newly discovered relatives.
An avid caregiver, Julie nurtured all living creatures with unwavering devotion. She often traveled to cheer on her loved ones, always showing up at events with encouragement and pride. She was a passionate advocate for animals. Each day she would drive across the city to comfort and feed stray cats, and whenever someone reached out for help, she always answered.
She achieved her lifelong dream of becoming an author and published three books under her pen name, Julie Ann Frances: These Two Abiding, Enter Clifton County, and Grande Canyon Street. Whether through her writing, her art, or simply being present for her loved ones, she left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
Julie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Duhl; her parents, Frances (Driscoll) and John Fowler; her sister, Jean Fowler; and her brother, Michael Fowler. She is survived by her children, Andrew Duhl (Michelle) and Elizabeth Duhl, who carry forward her spirit of kindness and creativity. She is also mourned by her siblings—Mark Fowler (Patricia), John Fowler (Robbin), Margery Schaffer (Mark), Matthew Fowler (Theresa), and Marianne Ponce (Dan)—along with her many nieces, nephews, and extended family, who hold her memory close.
Julie’s enthusiasm for the holidays will forever live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her passionate spirit. Her zest for life will continue to inspire us all to live each moment fully.
A celebration of Julie’s life will be held at a later date, when family and friends are able to gather and share memories. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor her memory may make a donation in her name to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, as requested by Julie.
