Joyce M. McCready

Joyce M. McCready, age 94 of Beavercreek, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at home. She was born December 28, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Mabel Mings Stecker and Inman Mings.

Joyce pursued her education at Southeast Missouri State University and Washington University, later graduating summa cum laude from Wright State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1982 and a second Bachelor's degree in Social Work in 1986. She was an active member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church and participated in several organizations, including the Officers' Wives Club, Beavercreek Women's League, Lit Lovers Book Club, and the Beavercreek Garden Club.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James N. McCready USAF Ret.; step-father, Walter Stecker and step-brother, Richard (Joann) Stecker.

Joyce is survived by her children, Kathy (Rick) Werkmeister; Steven (Kristy) McCready and Michael McCready; grandchildren, Bryan (Shannon) Werkmeister, Colleen Werkmeister, Kelsey (Sam) McCready Scherman and Lindsey McCready; great grandchildren, Emery, Jack and Addison, who is on the way; niece, Karrie McLaughlin; her beloved caregiver, Laura (Brian) Reber; cousin, Roland (June) Ahlmeyer, as well as many close and dear friends.

Memorial Donations may be made to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton in Joyce's honor.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). A private service at a later time will be held for the family and she will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery with the love of her life, Jim.
