Joseph H. Simpkins, Jr.

Joseph H. Simpkins, Jr., of Dayton, passed away on September 26, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on July 16, 1959, in Dayton, Ohio.

Joseph will be remembered as a devoted husband and a man who always put his family first. He adored his children, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, and the love he held for those closest to him remained at the center of his life. His steady presence and deep care for his family shaped the way he was known and loved by those around him.

He worked for many years for the City of Dayton, serving there until his retirement. Outside of work, Joseph enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought people together. He loved BINGO and watching sports, especially cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and the Bengals. Those interests reflected his enjoyment of fellowship, spirited competition, and the routines that made life meaningful.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Simpkins III; his daughter-in-law, Heather Simpkins; step-daughter, Patricia (Ralph) Murph; grandchildren, Joseph IV, Abby, Regan, and Adam, who were a treasured part of his life. Joseph is further survived by his brother, Doyle Simpkins; his sisters, Donna Simpkins and Debra Simpkins-Smith; and by Kim Wilder and Ellen and Phil Farmer, special friends whose companionship was important to him.

He also leaves behind many special friends from Valley Street BINGO, including Nate, Mo, Shawnette, Beth Ann, Blonde Amy, Red Amy, Teresa, Jacob, Josh, Becca, Jenna, Erin, Hap, Shelly, Cheryl, and Mark. Their friendship and shared time together were a meaningful part of his life.

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy J. Simpkins; his father, Joseph Simpkins Sr.; his mother, Laura Mae Longstreth; his step-daughters, Rhonda and Carolyn; and his brothers, Rick and Roy.

A memorial service is pending. Joseph will be laid to rest with his wife, Lucy, at Willow View Cemetery. Services entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel. 

Joseph H. Simpkins, Jr. will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his years of work and service with the City of Dayton, and the joy he found in the people and pastimes he loved. His memory will remain with all who knew him and loved him.
