Joseph Keith Hatcher, lovingly known as "Grandpa Joe," was born on April 12, 1940, and left this world on March 7, 2026. He lived a full life dedicated to family, community, and his passion for the grocery business, spanning over 50 years.
From a young age, Joe demonstrated a strong work ethic, starting his career at the tender age of 12, where he began sweeping the parking lot at Stragands Market. His trajectory in the grocery industry eventually led him to own Hatcher's Food Center until 1991, after which he embarked on various business ventures, including Joey's Doughey's Doughnut Factory. His contributions were marked by diligence and dedication, reflecting his commitment to service and quality.
A proud graduate of Fairmont West High School, Joe's achievements were recognized, and he also was a member of the West Carrollton High School Athletic Hall of Fame, a testament to his love of sports and community involvement.
Beyond his professional life, Joe was known for his infectious smile and positive demeanor. He was beloved by all who knew him, not only for his warm personality but also for his exceptional talent as a story-teller. His engaging tales left a lasting impression on those around him, particularly among the players he supported as the voice of Pirate Softball, where he also served as the score-keeper for an impressive 19 seasons.
Joe was an avid sports fan, with a special affinity for the Cincinnati Reds. His passion for sports was matched only by his deep commitment to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Janice Hatcher; his children, Doug (Karen) Hatcher and Debbie (Rick) Mays; grandchildren, Rachael Hatcher, Stacey (Chris) Koontz, Dennis Mays, and Ashley (James) Hyland; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Riley Hyland; along with many more family members and friends who cherished their time with him.
Joe's proudest accomplishments extend beyond his business ventures. He was a respected Mason and a charter member and deacon of Miami Shores Baptist Church, where he shared his faith and kindness with the congregation and the community at large. He was also one of the Youth Ministers and helped start the Bus Ministry.
He was predeceased by his son, Dennis Hatcher; his parents, Mildred and Joseph Hatcher; and his sister, Elaine (Don) Lochner. Joseph Keith Hatcher’s legacy of love, generosity, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his life.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Dayton and to Sycamore Springs Rehabilitation and Nursing. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
A Celebration of Joe's Life will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, with a service beginning at 6:00pm at Miami Shores Baptist Church, 4000 Vance Rd., in Moraine.
