Jon D. Waltman, affectionately known to nearly everyone as “Big Jon,” passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 57. Born and raised in Lewisburg, Ohio, Jon carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life. He was a proud 1986 graduate of Tri-County North High School, where he first discovered the love of sports that would shape so much of who he became.
A devoted Ohio State fan and a natural mentor, Jon found joy in coaching. For more than 15 years, he dedicated countless evenings and weekends to coaching baseball and football, guiding young athletes with patience, humor, and a genuine belief in their potential. His impact on the field and on the lives of the kids he coached, will be felt for years to come.
Jon worked for FedEx Freight for 26 years, where his strong work ethic, easygoing nature, and unmistakable presence will be missed. Whether at work, on the sidelines, or in the community, he was known for his big heart, big laugh, and even bigger love for the people around him.
He leaves behind his wife, Leslie; his children, Taylor, though if you asked Jon, he would call her “Kat,” Caleb, and Morgan; and his beloved granddaughter Olivia, who he lovingly called “Big O.” He is also survived by his mother, Kristina “Tina”; cousins Melora and Whitt, who were more like siblings; and many extended family members and friends who cherished him.
Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles D. and Rosemary (Ziegler) Waltman, and his uncle and aunt, Douglass Z. and Ruby (Johnson) Waltman.
Jon touched countless lives with his kindness, loyalty, and unwavering support. He was loved deeply and will be missed beyond measure.
Services will be announced soon.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jon, may be made to Tri-County North Pee Wee Football, P.O. Box 464, Lewisburg, OH 45338.
