John "Gene" Singleton, age 89, of Centerville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 31, 2018. He was born in Dayton on September 18, 1928 to the late John & Jeanette Singleton.
Gene proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Gene retired from the USPS as a letter carrier. Gene loved his family, his many pets, and church family. He was very involved with his church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Singleton; son, John Singleton; step-daughter, Cathy Cox; brother, Robert Singleton; and sister, Barbara Keaton.
Gene is survived by his wife of 24 years, Peggy Sue Singleton; children, Barbara de Martin, Terry Singleton, Joy (Frank) Dunkin, Brian (Corina) Singleton, and David (Charlotte) Singleton; step-children, Becky Grensted, Arlene Hallmart, Larry Miller, David (Karen) Rose and James Rose; grandchildren, Tiffany Wray, Tim Cooper, Steven Dunkin, Lauran Dunkin, Amber Singleton, Johnny Singleton, Austin Singleton, Cara Singleton, Zachary Singleton, Zoe Singleton and Jose de Martin; 10 step-grandchildren including, Brent, Austin, JR and Shauna; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 1-2 pm at Newcomer South Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439. The service will follow at 2 pm, with Pastor Mike Holland officiating. Gene will be laid to rest at Bellbrook Cemetery.
