U.S. Air Force Retired Master Sergeant, John Henry Pennix, II, affectionately known as "JP," passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Kettering, Ohio. Born on February 24, 1959, in Vivian, West Virginia, John lived a life marked by devotion, service, and profound love for his family and community.
JP was a proud veteran who faithfully and honorably served the United States Air Force, retiring with the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant. His commitment to excellence extended beyond his military career as he completed an Associate's Degree in Applied Science, Community College of the Air Force while serving. His dedication and leadership were hallmarks of his professional life.
In 2004, John answered the call and was ordained as an associate pastor, a role in which his faith truly shone and became the cornerstone of his life. His deep faith and compassion touched many and fueled his commitment to serving others.
John was a man with a big heart, always loving and generous. Known for being continually active, he loved children and was deeply involved in youth sports, where he frequently served as a referee across a variety of games. His enthusiasm extended to working on VW cars with his friends, reflecting his passion for hands-on activities.
At home, John was a devoted family man. He shared 25 cherished years with his beloved wife, Pamela Pennix. He is survived by his children: John H. (Tashira) Pennix III, Brandon J. Pennix, and Jasmine S. (Antonio) Persons. John also is remembered by his bonus children, Krystal Miller and James (Donna) Stroman. He was a proud and beloved grandfather to John H. Pennix IV, Nevaeh King, Zaya Persons, and Zaylee Persons, who lovingly called him "Papa."
John's family circle extended to his sisters Gloria (Sheena) Simms, Lillian Collins, and Johnetta Pennix, and his brothers Calvin Pennix and Calvert Pennix, who along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends carry forward his legacy of warmth and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Janae Pennix; his parents, Virginia and John H. Pennix Sr.; brothers Richard Pennix, William (Keith) Pennix, and Sterling Pennix; and his nephew Kushon Collins.
A visitation to honor John’s life will be held at Living Word Church, located at 926 East National Road, Vandalia, Ohio 45377, on May 9, 2026, from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM. This will be followed immediately by a Celebration of Life at the same location at 11:30 AM.
John Henry Pennix, II’s legacy is one of steadfast faith, dedicated service, and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
