Listen to Obituary

John Michael Kraft, born November 16, 1985, in Fortuna, California, passed away on September 8, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio.

John will be remembered as a funny, kind, and loving man whose smile endured no matter what life placed before him. He was always joking, quick-witted, and known for telling stories—especially the kind of “fish stories” that carried his humor and personality so well. Hard-headed in the way that often comes with determination, he was also a quick learner and someone who brought energy and character wherever he went.

He worked as a mechanic for Firestone and Zwisslers Automotive, and he was truly a jack of all trades. John enjoyed a wide range of interests that reflected both his adventurous spirit and his creative side. He loved fishing, disc golf, astrology, art, movies—especially horror movies—heavy metal music, camping, and the outdoors. One especially meaningful joy in his life was sharing his love of horror movies with his daughter, who took after him in that way. Above all, his family, especially his daughter, was his proudest accomplishment.

John is survived by his beloved daughter, Taylor Ann Kraft; his mother, Anne Austin Kraft; and his father, Steve (Tina Barnhorn) Kraft. He is also survived by his siblings, Jodee (Ivan Bashaw) Kraft, Paulie Kraft, and Jason Kraft as well as multiple aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. May the love they shared with John, and the many memories he leaves behind, bring them comfort and peace in the days ahead.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Justin Edward Kraft; his maternal grandparents, Donald Ernest Austin and Mary Jo Grismer; and his paternal grandparents, Dee Kraft and Paul “Boots” Kraft Sr.
