John Douglas Ketcham, a devoted husband, dedicated professional, and kind-hearted soul, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, in Kettering, Ohio. Born on June 7, 1936, in Elmira, New York, John lived a life marked by commitment, both to his family and his career, leaving behind a legacy defined by love and service.
John’s journey began with an earnest pursuit of knowledge, culminating in a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Mississippi State University in 1959. Shortly thereafter, in December of that same year, he embarked on a distinguished chapter of his life by entering the United States Air Force. His time in service demonstrated commendable dedication, which he carried with him into his civilian career. After concluding his service, John applied his analytical skills as a Computer Systems Analyst at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 1993.
Beyond his professional achievements, John was known to those closest to him as a kind and loving individual. His niece, Mellissa Albright, fondly recalled his good sense of humor, a testament to the warmth he brought to his family gatherings. John’s true pride and joy resided in his lifelong partnership with his wife, Doris Ketcham, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Their life together was enriched by their shared love for their home and their beloved cat, Charlie. This cherished family unit also includes his niece Mellissa (James) Albright, their son Jameson Drake Albright, and great-great-niece Oakley.
John’s personal interests reflected a contemplative and vibrant mind. He found pleasure in reading, engaged his intellect through sudoku puzzles, and cultivated a love for gardening—a pastime that mirrored his nurturing spirit and patience.
Though John has left this world, he is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jessie Ketcham, and his brother, Charles Ketcham. The memories and values he instilled in his family continue to serve as a guiding light.
John Douglas Ketcham’s life was a testament to steadfast devotion—in his career, in his family, and in the simple joys that defined his days. He will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by those fortunate enough to have known him.
