In loving memory of John E. Horner, age 77, of Dayton, Ohio who passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025. Born on February 12, 1948, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Laurie and Grace Horner. John graduated from Harvey Firestone High School, earned his Bachelor's degree from Akron University, and went on to receive his Master's degree from Ohio State University.
A proud veteran, John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He dedicated 38 years of his career to Wright Patterson Air Force Base as an Aerospace Engineer, where he not only advanced the field of aerospace but also made significant efforts to support others. He organized and managed an internship program that helped young interns enhance their careers and collaborated on the Starbase program, which taught children about space and aerospace technology. Additionally, he founded the Wright Scholars charity to benefit students.
John fondly remembered his participation in the soapbox derby during his youth and carried those cherished memories throughout his life. An avid bowler and passionate sports fan, he closely followed NASCAR, Ohio State Football, and the Cincinnati Bengals. He enjoyed playing Bridge competitively at a local club and was known as a dedicated cyclist.
John is survived by his daughters, Stacie L. Chapman and Elizabeth K. (Chad) Scott; his partner, Marie J. Glaser; grandsons, Gavin Scott, Mason Scott, Gabriel Chapman, and Jacen Chapman; granddaughters, Arianna Scott and Laney Potzick-Chapman; his sister, Patricia Horner-Delagrange; nieces, Amy Fulton and Laurie Collins; and many other family members and friends.
