John H. Draves, 86, of Dayton, Ohio went to be with the Lord on October 14, 2016.
John was born on January 22, 1930 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Henry and Bernadine Draves.
John was a graduate of Chaminade H.S. and the University of Dayton. He drafted himself to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John served as bailiff to the Honorable Walter Rice before working as a Deputy Auditor for Montgomery County, retiring after over 30 years. John campaigned actively for the Democratic Party and was greatly supportive of the Boy Scouts. He loved sports and was a die-hard Bengals fan. He was a kind man with a quirky sense of humor who loved his family dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta. John will be missed by his loving children; Therese, Michael, Charles and Catherine; grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Catherine, Bruce, Stephanie, Lacie, Carrie, Michael Jr.; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Donna Jean Shade; nieces, nephews, cousins and his dog Pippi.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, OH). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at St. Helen Parish, 5100 Burkhardt Rd., Dayton, OH, Fr. Satish Joseph, Celebrant. Interment Woodland Cemetery Dayton, OH.
