John C. Dean, age 83, of Union, passed away August 13, 2025. He was born February 25, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Leonard and Dorothy Dean.
John is survived by his wife, Virginia Dean; children: Tammy Perkins and Dawn Smith (Deron); step-children: Lorraine McCoy (Pat Doyle) and Jimmy Ziegeler; grandchildren: Nathan Perkins (Samantha), Sarah Merrell (Steven), Conner Smith, Brandon Ziegeler (Caitlyn Kirkwood), Kristen Ziegeler, Devin Ziegeler (Brittany), Dylan Ziegeler and James Ziegeler; great-grandchildren: Ronin, Will, Riley, Brayden, Aubrey, Rylie and Harper; sister, Marlene Russo; brother, Lenny Dean (Angela); many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Farmersville Masonic Lodge and AmVets Post # 24. John retired from Wonder Bread after 25 years of service. He then worked at Johnson's Catering for many years. John was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed bowling, camping, being outdoors, doing yard work and gardening. He was known for grilling the best steaks and burgers. More than anything, John loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, September 8, 2025 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1000 Wenger Road, Englewood. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Contributions may be made in John's memory to the Victory Ridge Hospice at Dayton VA Medical Center.
