John Louis Childress, Sr., age 73 of Huber Heights, passed away surrounded by family on March 1, 2018. He was born in Dayton to the late John Lewis and Myrtle Childress on May 16, 1944. John worked for many years as a supervisor for Avery Dennison in Miamisburg until his retirement in 2010. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golfing in his free time. John took great pride in his family and enjoyed spending his free time with them. He was a loving, caring, and generous husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by sisters, Janie Vivirito (Tony) and Macie Dobson; brother, Jim Childress; brother-in-laws, Denzel Dobson and Ray Star; and niece Geri Hargrave.
John leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife of 40 years, Sherry Childress; children, John (Missy) Childress, Jr., Cheryl Byers, Mike (Robyn) Childress, Jeremy Childress, and Brandon (Tammy) Childress; grandchildren, Jessie, Davey, Kyle, Kristina (Jordan), Tawny (Brandon), Olivia (Chastan), Colin, Marissa, Evyn, Aydan, Kyrsten, Ethan, Ian, Lonnie; great-granddaughter, Layla Rae; special niece and best friend, Rhonda DeBord; mother and father-in-law, Margie and Lonnie Long; and sister-in-law, Penny Long; and brother-in-law, Trinity (Tim) Enright, and many other loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel at 4pm. Family will greet friends and loved ones for two hours prior (2pm-4pm).
