John R. Chestnut

John R. Chestnut, age 91, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved member of the Dayton community, passed away on June 11, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on November 8, 1934, in Dayton, John lived a life characterized by dedication to his family and a steadfast commitment to his career and passions.

John enjoyed a long and fulfilling professional journey, contributing many years of service at McCall Corp. before retiring from Converters Prepress. His colleagues and friends remember him as a diligent and dependable individual who exemplified integrity and hard work.

Above all, John’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He shared a remarkable 65 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Judith “Judy” (Bicknell) Chestnut, whom he married on March 9, 1956. Their partnership was a cornerstone of his life and a testament to enduring love and commitment.

John also pursued hobbies that brought him peace and satisfaction. He was passionate about woodworking, a craft that allowed him to express creativity and skill. He found solace and enjoyment in being outdoors, often working in his yard, where his care and attentiveness were evident. Additionally, he loved watching sports and movies, interests that enriched his leisure time.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Kathy (Don Cope) Tacinelli; grandchildren, Laura (Kyle) Sweney and Aaron (Katharina Donn) Tacinelli; great-grandchildren, Sabrina Sweney, Raphael Donn-Tacinelli, and Klara Donn-Tacinelli; sister-in-law, Wanda Chestnut, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors who valued his warmth and kindness.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Martha B. (Miller) Chestnut; his beloved wife, Judith “Judy” (Bicknell) Chestnut; and his siblings, Mary Ann Mix, Patricia “Pat” LeDonne, William “Randy” Chestnut, George “Bud” Chestnut, and Dennis “Denny” Chestnut.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 12:00PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439. Family and friends may visit from 11:00AM until the time of service. John will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to Hospice of Dayton in memory of John. 

John’s legacy is marked by the love he showed his family, his dedication to his work, and the simple pleasures he found in his personal interests. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
