In Loving Memory of John M. Barlow Sr.

May 8, 1970 – September 15, 2026

John M. Barlow, known simply as “Barlow” to most and “Papaw” to some of the most important people in his world, passed away on September 15, 2026.

If you knew Barlow, you knew exactly what kind of man he was. He was stubborn, strong-willed, fiercely protective, hardworking, and unapologetically himself. He was known for being a badass—and he earned that reputation. But the people closest to him knew there was much more underneath that tough exterior.

Barlow was a protector. If you were someone he loved, you knew he had your back. He worked hard, loved hard, and took care of his family in the way he knew best. He could be stubborn as hell, but that stubbornness was part of what made Barlow, Barlow. You always knew where you stood with him, and when it came to his family, there wasn’t much he wouldn’t do.

He leaves behind his wife, Billie Jean, and his children, Tina, John Jr., Billy, Dustin, and Donna. Being their father was one of the most important roles of his life, and the love and protection he gave his family will continue long after his passing.

But there was another name that carried a special meaning—Papaw.

His grandchildren, Kameron, Bobby, Faith, John III, JJ, Aubrey, Alana, Kenzy, Miah, Layla, Breanna, Jovi, MaKenna, TJ, Jaxon, Ollie, and Baby Barlow, were a tremendous part of his life and his legacy. To them, he wasn’t just the tough guy everyone knew as Barlow. He was Papaw—and there will never be another one quite like him.

He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and an extended family who will carry their own stories and memories of Barlow for years to come.

Barlow was a hardworking man who knew how to use his hands and wasn’t afraid of a long day’s work. When he wasn’t working, you might find him with a bottle of Jim Beam listening to classic country music, throwing darts, fishing, hunting, playing cards, working in his garden, or simply spending time with the people he loved.

There will be certain country songs that will never sound quite the same again. There will be card games, hunting stories, gardens, family gatherings, and moments when someone will inevitably say, “You know what Barlow would’ve said…”

And they’ll probably know exactly what he would have said, too.

Because men like Barlow leave an impression.

He wasn’t perfect, and he never pretended to be. He was stubborn. He was protective. He was tough. He was hardworking. He was a husband, a father, an uncle, a friend, and one hell of a Papaw.

Most importantly, he loved his family fiercely.

His absence will be felt in ways both big and small, but so will his presence—in his children, his grandchildren, the lessons he taught, the stories that will be repeated, and the memories his family will continue making in his honor.

Barlow worked hard. He stood his ground. He protected his people. He loved his family. And he lived life his way.

That is a legacy worth remembering.

Rest easy, Barlow.

Forever their father. Forever their Papaw. Forever a badass.
