Joe Brian White, military veteran, pharmacist and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on June 2, 1936, in Princeton, Indiana, Joe’s life was a testament to commitment, compassion, and a desire to connect with all those who knew him.
Joe earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Butler University and later, furthered his education with a Masters of Hospital Administration from the Medical College of Virginia while in the Air Force. His distinguished military service as an Air Force Lieutenant Colonel was marked by 21 years of dedicated duty, culminating in his role as Hospital Clinic Commander—a position where his leadership and compassion truly shone.
Upon retiring, Joe continued his career for many years, working as a pharmacist for several local drugstores in the Dayton area. His commitment to health and wellness extended beyond his professional life, reflecting a deep desire to serve and care for his community with kindness and expertise.
Joe’s easy-going personality and unique charm made him a most captivating storyteller, beloved for his engaging conversations and magnetic charisma. He cherished his roots growing up on a farm and had a profound love for simple pleasures—whether it was a good cup of coffee, indulging in his favorite desserts, or setting out on spontaneous drives to explore new horizons. His hobbies included golf, fishing, square dancing, bowling, and traveling. Joe was also a member of Ascension Church in Kettering.
Family was the cornerstone of Joe’s proudest accomplishments. Though he endured the sorrowful loss of his beloved wife Martha Jane White, his daughter Cynthia White, his sister Judith Jane White, and his parents Kermit and Helen White, as well as uncles Don Theodore Whitsitt and Samuel Joseph Whittsitt who served as father figures after his father’s early passing, Joe found enduring joy and strength in the large and loving family he nurtured.
He is survived by his devoted children Tracy (Mike) Robbins, Jerry (Denise) Nordby, Joe Nordby, Kenneth (Sandy) Nordby, and Lois Eberly. His grandchildren—Ryan Amadio, Rachel Amadio, Brian (Nia) Nordby, Jessica (Jeremy) Gorrell, Andrew Eberly, and Hannah (Corey) Riordan—reflect the legacy of love and guidance he so carefully cultivated. Joe’s great-grandchildren—Mia, Paxton, Bristann, Ezra and Ronin Amadio, Lincoln Nordby, and Riley Riordan—will continue to carry his memory forward with pride and affection.
A visitation will be held on June 2, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio, followed by a memorial service from 12:30 p.m. At 2:00 p.m., a graveside service will take place at Dayton National Cemetery, offering a final tribute to a remarkable man whose life was a tapestry of kindness, service, and heartfelt connection.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Hospice of Dayton in Joe's memory.
