Joan Lucille Logsdon, age 70, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away peacefully, on the night of August 27th, 2025 at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. After a 5 year long illness, her body grew weary and said it was time to rest. Joan was born on December 17th, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Harry & Lillian Peddicord.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary (Ned) McDowell.
Joan or "Joanie", as she was affectionately called, by her family & friends, grew up in Clayton, Ohio in a house on Main Street that no longer exists. Joan graduated from Northmont High School in Englewood, OH in 1973.
Joan worked at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH. Joan was a loyal & hard working employee at MVH for 40 years. She worked as a Unit clerk (HUC), spending the majority of her time there working on Maternity 1 & 2 on night shift. Joan helped keep the unit running smoothly. She loved, and was well loved by her work family.
One of Joan’s great loves was traveling. In fact she had spoken about how she had thought about becoming a flight attendant in her younger years. Though that never came to fruition, she made it a priority to travel as much as she could. Joan traveled many places with family and friends over the years, but her 2 most favorite places to go in the world were Tennessee and the beach.
Joan also had a tender heart and love for animals. Her favorite animals were dogs, cats and cows. Her home was decorated in both cow and beach decor. Joan had many pets over the years that she loved and cared for. In the last few months of her illness her dog, Tink stayed faithfully at her feet.
Joan had a great love for her family, and was so excited to be a grandmother. She loved taking the grandkids places like the zoo, water park, museums, the movies, Young’s Dairy Farm, mini golf, musical theatre and the aquarium. She was the same way with her children growing up. She gave them experiences and great memories to hold onto. When she was a young mother, she had a dream about her being a feisty old grandmother. In the dream she saw herself as an old woman, barely able to see over the steering wheel, driving around in a convertible, hair blowing in the wind as she sped around town while the song, “Little old lady from Pasadena” was playing. She always remembered that dream, and laughed about it over the years.
Joan loved her family, friends, and Jesus. Joan exemplified Jesus’s heart in her gentle nature, and in the love, kindness, and generosity she showed others. Joan loved to celebrate holidays, birthdays and milestones. She loved giving gifts, cards, and making her family and friends feel special and cared for. Joan will continue to live on in the hearts she touched because the love she shared will live on.
Joan is survived by her son, Christopher Logsdon & 2 granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Kyla Logsdon; daughter, Laura (JJ) Pennington & 2 grandsons, Colton and Sawyer Pennington; furry companion Tink; niece, Lillian Justice and 2 nephews, Charlie and Bruce McDowell of Tazewell, TN; best friends, Judy Braun, Julie Gift, Sandy Goins and Tonya Arntz; among countless other family and friends that she held near & dear to her heart.
Per Joan’s wishes, she will be cremated. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm-3:00pm on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Beavercreek), where a memorial service will be held at 3:00pm. Family and friends are welcome to come to show support and celebrate her life. Instead of wearing black, I’m sure Joan would love it if you wore light, or bright, beachy colors in honor of her love for the beach.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make donations in Joan’s name to Sisca, the Humane Society, or any other reputable animal rescue, the American Liver Foundation, American Heart Association, or wherever you see fit to spread some love, light, and kindness out into the world would be appreciated.
