Jewell Lyons

Jewell Dean Lyons, age 95 of Dayton, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025. She was born October 9, 1929 in Irvine, Kentucky the daughter of the late Eli and Zella Worrell. Jewell graduated from Estill County High School. She was a member of Far Hills Baptist Church for many years. She worked for General Motors and, more recently, at Macy's as a salesperson until she retired at the age of 84. Jewell had a strong work ethic. She was very talented with her sewing skills. She could make anything from drapery to clothing, and her family have fond memories of the Halloween costumes and dresses she made over the years. Jewell was an excellent cook and baker. Her homemade pies were delicious. She was incredibly handy and skilled in crafts; for example, she re-caned a set cane chairs and made new cushions for them. Jewell also enjoyed working out in the yard. She valued working hard at home, and providing for her family. She will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her Husband of 51 years, William Edward Lyons; Son, Billy Lyons; Brothers, Herman Worrell and Eli Worrell Jr.; and her parents.

Jewell is survived by her Daughters, Cindy A. (Steve) Berner, Julie M. Lyons; Grandchildren, Jeffery S. (Nia) Berner, and Lindsey Michelle (Robert) Stowers; Great-Grandchildren, Alekai Price, Brenli Berner, Weston Berner, Warren Berner, Camden Stowers, and Mila Stowers; and by numerous other family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - Centerville (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45459). Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
