Jerome E. "Jerry" Leo, age 80 of Dayton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his home. He was born February 18, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Edwin and Agatha Leo.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Charles "Tom" Leo; and great-grandchild, Jacob Barker.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Constance "Connie"; daughters, Lisa (Doug) Gaffney, Laura Shaneyfelt; grandchildren, Christina Smith, Forrest Smith, Mara Shaneyfelt, Tyler Shaneyfelt; great-grandchild, Teegan Herrington; siblings, Carolyn Monnin, Sister Jane Bernadette Leo, David (Rita) Leo, Michael (Theresa) Leo, Cheryl (Ted) Elmore; honorary sister, Sister John Michael Gier; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force and retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base after 38 years of service. Following retirement, he continued his love for the outdoors and worked for 15 years for Kettering Parks and Recreation. He also enjoyed camping, bicycling and his porch swing.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 11 am, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Rita School for the Deaf in Cincinnati or The Humane Society of Greater Dayton.
