Jean S. Pope, affectionately known to her loved ones as "Toot," passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Dayton, OH, at the age of 75. Born on December 24, 1949, in Dayton, she lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
Toot dedicated many years of her career to Supreme Optical in Franklin, OH, where she made lasting connections with both coworkers and customers. Her work ethic and passion for service led her to Star Cleaners, followed by a notable position at PNC Bank after her retirement, proving that for Toot, the desire to contribute did not cease with retirement. She also took great joy in her role as a paraprofessional in the elementary schools of Miamisburg, where she inspired countless children and formed cherished bonds with her colleagues.
Family was the cornerstone of Toot's life. She reveled in spending time with her beloved daughters, Jessica (Kinte Treadwell) Pope and Heather Pope Ellis, and her son, Brian Pope. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Katie (Jack) McArdle, Maggie Swaney, Seth Treadwell, and Ian Pope-Treadwell, as well as her great grandchildren, Tre Lasley, Ethan McArdle, Leo McArdle, and Xoie Roberts. She was a great daughter, mom, stepmom, grandma, and great grandma, exemplifying love and devotion throughout her life.
Toot had a rich variety of interests and hobbies. She found solace in reading and often spent leisurely afternoons outside, enjoying the warmth of the sun. She looked forward to her annual houseboat trips to Cumberland, which she shared with other couples for 26 years—an adventure fondly dubbed “the boat people.” Toot’s sense of humor made her an exceptional friend, and she relished every opportunity to reconnect with old acquaintances, including her best friend, Rise' Davis, who remained a constant presence in her life.
Memories of joyful family celebrations will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her. December 24th was not Christmas Eve at the Pope’s house, it was Toot’s birthday open house celebration with all family friends coming to visit her. She enjoyed lively discussions around Tim's spaghetti, and cherished visits to the Gatlinburg, TN are but a few highlights that demonstrate Toot’s loving spirit and the joy she found in her family's company.
Preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Bernie Greggerson, her husband, Tim Pope, and her brother, Steve Greggerson, Toot leaves behind a loving and grieving family who will carry her memory forward. Though she is no longer with us, her loving spirit will forever illuminate the lives of those she touched. Jean S. Pope will be remembered not only for her unwavering dedication to her family and friends but also for the joy she brought into their lives.
