Janet Louise Samuels

Janet Louise Samuels, age 95 of Dayton, passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on May 26, 2019. Born in Columbus on August 11, 1923. She married Charles Thompson at a young age and had two children; Doug Thompson and Virginia Thompson.

Janet then uprooted and went to live in New York City. There she met the great love of her life, Michael Samuels. They were married 37 years until his death.

As the oldest of 15 children, Janet helped with some of the responsibilities around her home, caring for her family, whom she loved with all her heart.

Janet dedicated her life to the service of others, working for many years as a health care supply technician in the hospitals. Her dedication and compassion was evident in that each day her commute required her take two trains, one bus, a taxi, and walk four blocks to work. She touched many lives during her career until her retirement in the early 1990's.

After her retirement and husband's passing, Janet relocated back to Ohio. Settling in Dayton.

Janet loved to shop and was a regular at Macy's Department Store in Manhattan. She loved the Lord and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed being around her loved ones and will be remembered for always bringing a smile to your face. She never knew a stranger and kept a conversation with anyone.

She was a loving, caring, and passionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, George McLane and Virginia Cook; husbands, Charles Thompson and Michael Samuels; beloved children, Douglas Thompson and Virginia "Phyllis" Ward; granddaughter, Janet Thompson; and siblings, Margarete, George, Sylvia, Faith, Kenneth, Georgia, Rose, Francis, Flora, Marilyn, and Charlotte.

Janet leaves to cherish her memory, sisters, Virginia Cutler, Gladys Julius, and Ruby Adams; devoted grandchildren, Richelle L. (Curtis), William (Marva), James (Meco), Teresa, Deanna, Corey, Cora, Michael, Marilyn, John, and James (Thompson); beloved great-grandson, Jesse (Tequilla) Ramey; several other great-grandchildren; a few great-great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

The family will celebrate Janet's life with a private celebration and balloon release in her honor at a later date.

The family requests that those wanting to honor Janet's memory, to consider a donation in her name to Hospice of Dayton.
