Janet Marie Dobo, lovingly known as Jan, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, in Piqua, Ohio, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. Born on May 15, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa, Jan lived a life marked by unwavering strength, kindness, and a profound dedication to those she cherished most.
Jan's journey began in Waterloo, where she graduated from West High School before pursuing her passion for education at the University of Northern Iowa College of Education, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She devoted her professional life to nurturing young minds, teaching first and third grades within the State of Iowa Public Schools. After taking time off to raise her family she ran the after-school program at St. Luke’s in Beavercreek, fostering a safe and inspiring environment for children to grow.
Her personal life was a testament to her enduring spirit and vibrant personality. Known for always having a smile on her face, Jan was a pillar of strength—the quiet force behind the scenes, cherished for her determination and resilience. Those who knew her will never forget her courageous fight back from a stroke at just 47 years old, a testament to her indomitable will and heart.
Jan was not only a devoted educator and fighter but also an enthusiastic leader and adventurer. As a Girl Scout Leader and lifelong member for over 50 years, she touched countless lives with her guidance and care. Her passions were many: she loved cats, camping, the great outdoors, and traveling, proudly having visited all 50 states. Above all, Jan treasured the precious moments spent with her beloved family.
Her proudest accomplishment was always her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought immense joy and purpose to her life. Janet is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Andrew; her children Ken (Jamey Jones) Dobo and Cindy (Riley Scherer) Dobo; her beloved grandchildren Wyatt Moretti-Dobo, Levi Moretti-Dobo, and Amos Moretti-Dobo; and her cherished furry companion, Tibi.
Jan was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dorothy and Elmo Fisher, and her brother Curt Fisher. Though they are no longer with us, their memories live on in the hearts of those who loved Janet.
A visitation to honor Janet's remarkable life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio, on April 6, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 1:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a life beautifully lived.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Jan's memory to SICSA or Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, both charities near and dear to her heart.
