James Walker Williams, known affectionately as Jim, passed away on June 10, 2025, at his residence in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Born on August 9, 1935, in Gate City, Virginia, Jim was a beacon of warmth and laughter throughout his life, enriching the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy defined by his hard work, generosity, and a delightful sense of humor.
Jim dedicated his professional life to the Local Iron Workers Union 290, where he retired as a Contractor at AK Steel in Middletown. A proud veteran, he honored his country by serving in the United States Army.
Outside of work, Jim found immeasurable joy in gardening. He loved the thrill of playing lottery scratch-off tickets. An avid baseball fan, Jim was particularly enthusiastic about cheering on his beloved Cincinnati Reds. Whether it be going to races or collecting memorabilia, NASCAR and the driver, Rusty Wallace, were also favorites of his. His laughter was contagious and could light up a room, while his open-minded nature made him a beloved individual among friends and family alike.
Jim shared his life with his children, Sandra (Rick) King and James Williams II, who will forever honor his memory. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to all his grandchildren: Tyler (Charms) King, Zach (Heather) Williams, Kyle (Chaz) Williams, Taylor (Dave) Tickel, and Greyson Williams; and his great-grandchildren, Logan, Paityn, River, and Nathan. He also leaves behind his cat, Butterball, who brought warmth and companionship during many quiet moments.
He is also survived by his siblings: Ruth Henry, Beauty Williams, and JoAnn Peters; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends. He held dear memories of his late parents, Brett and Maxie Williams, his beloved wife, Peggy H. Williams; and his siblings, Nell, Dana, and Herschel Williams.
Additionally, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge #711, where he cultivated friendships and camaraderie with fellow members.
As we gather to celebrate the life and memories of Jim, we invite friends and family to join us for visitation on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 6:00 PM, both held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio.
