With his family by his side, James Carl Slyder, age 75, passed away peacefully on his birthday, July 30, 2025 at Kettering Memorial Hospital. Born in Dayton, Ohio, July 30, 1950. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson and Mary Ann (Zugelder) Slyder; and a brother Dennis Slyder.
He is survived by his loving wife Paula Sue (Reighley) married on February 15, 1975 and the couple recently celebrated their 50th golden anniversary with family and friends.
Jim was a graduate of Stebbins High School in 1969. He was a life-long resident of Beavercreek, Ohio. Jim was employed by Strohs and Mike-sells and took pride in his company and clients. After retirement, he worked at Walnut Grove Golf Course. Jim loved playing softball and golf, and spending time and joking around with family and friends.
He is also survived by two sons: James Lee Slyder and wife Theresa, and Andrew Michael Slyder. He is also survived by a brother: Ralph (Donna) Slyder of Medina, and three sisters: Pam (Grover) Cleveland of Beavercreek, Sandy Spurr of Kettering, and Candice (Randy) Honaker of Centerville.
He is also survived by two granddaughters: Kara Marie Slyder and Riley Nikole Slyder, a loving granddaughter who lives with Paula and Jim and gave him CPR trying to save his life; and four grandsons: Chase (Pashia) Slyder, Troy Slyder, Anthony Pratt, and Tanner Slyder. He is also survived by two great-grandsons: Emerson Slyder and Kaison Pratt.
Special thanks to family friends Caleb Banks and Christa Slyder, and to Jim's nurses, doctors and all who cared for him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed and now gone home to be with the Lord.
