James Scott Maloney, affectionately known to all as Jim, Jimbo or Jimmy, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, in Kettering, Ohio, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 26, 1962, in Beavercreek, Ohio, Jim’s life was one defined by his steadfast dedication to others, his infectious laughter, and a heart as vast as the community he served.
A proud graduate of Beavercreek High School in 1980, Jim went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Wright State University. His career spanned over three decades as a devoted social worker at Southview Hospital. For 31 years, he touched countless lives, offering compassion and care until his medical retirement in 2025. Yet, his professional accomplishments were always second to what he held dearest—his family.
Jim was a larger-than-life presence—outspoken, boisterous, and impossible to overlook. Neighbors knew when he was outside, often drawn by his unmistakable laugh and quick wit. With a love for baseball and football, especially rooting for The Ohio State University Buckeyes and Duke Basketball, he could always be found cheering enthusiastically. Whether fishing, enjoying a Natty Light Beer, or simply hanging out in the garage (“if the garage was open, he was outside”), Jim embraced life with joyful spirit and an open heart.
His stubbornness was a trait those close to him knew well, but it never overshadowed his natural caretaker’s instinct and his boundless generosity. Jim famously made too much food, always prepared in case a friend stopped by unannounced—a testament to his desire to share and connect. Wherever he went, he couldn’t help but make friends, drawing people together with humor and warmth.
Jim’s proudest accomplishment was without question his family. He shared 40 cherished years with his beloved wife, Sharon. Together, they nurtured and watched with pride as their children, Josh and Sarah, grew into remarkable individuals. His family circle included his siblings—Matt Maloney (and Diane), Linda Ankeny (and Ryan), and Tom Maloney Jr. (and Tracy)—as well as his mother-in-law Sarah, and brother-in-law Gary, all of whom remain living and carry forward his loving memory. He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Jan Maloney, his stepmother Carolyn Maloney, father-in-law Patrick, and brother-in-law Phillip.
Visitation will be held on June 1, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio. The funeral service will follow the next morning, June 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery.

To know Jim was to experience a kind, boisterous soul whose laughter filled rooms and whose love filled hearts. His legacy will remain vibrant among family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. Though his voice may be silent now, the echoes of his hearty laugh, his compassion, and his unwavering spirit will forever resound in the stories and lives he leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Jim—you were truly one of a kind.
