James Bentley Maddox Jr., age 62, of Centerville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 3:03 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital.
Born on February 5, 1963, James was the beloved son of the late James and Emma (Ruppe) Maddox and the brother of the late Andrew Maddox. He grew up in Englewood and spent much of his life in the Miami Valley area, where he was known for his kind spirit, steady work ethic, and warm smile.
James was a valued employee at Dorothy Lane Market, where he was respected by his coworkers and loved by countless customers. His friendliness and care for others made a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Emma (Ruppe) Maddox, and his brother, Andrew. He is survived by his uncles, Bill Maddox, John and Deborah Maddox, aunts, Debbie Maddox, Carolyn (Ruppe) Quirino, cousins, Terri Dorsey, Rick Fisher, Bill Fisher, Jill Maddox, Andrea (Goin) Harker, Vicki Smith, Cindy (Abbott) Shaw, Tina (Abbott) Butler, Robyn (Abbott) Murray.
James will be remembered for his gentle heart, sense of humor, and the joy he brought to everyday life. Though his passing leaves a deep void, his memory will continue to bring comfort and love to all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm at Newcomer Centerville Chapel (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, OH 45459). A Celebration of Life will begin at 4:30 pm.
