James M. Whitfield, Sr.

James M. Whitfield, Sr., age 69 of Dayton, passed away April 8, 2016. He was born November 3, 1946 in Glen Alum, WV to the late John William and Evelyn Whitfield. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister Brenda Whitfield.
James is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marla Whitfield; children: Jimmy, James Jr., Marletta, Jamara and Morine; 9 grandchildren; brother, Marshall (Jennifer); sister-in-law, Thelma L. Turner; special niece, Ronda Beckwith aka "Big Kahuna"; and a host of other relatives and friends.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Vietnam War. He retired from General Motors in 2006. James was an avid # 1 Cleveland Browns fan. He was a dedicated father and grandfather.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 am. Contributions may be made in James' memory to the American Diabetes Association.
