Age 78 of Dayton, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Iris Townsend; his parents, Manuel & Gertie (Hart) Townsend; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Maiker-Koufie who passed away this past December at the age of 102; two sisters & one brother.
Jim is survived by three children, Janet (John) Fedrick, Stephen Townsend and Mark (Donna) Townsend; six grandchildren, Jamila (Chris) Jones, Jensen Sanders, Jason Townsend, DeMarcus Townsend, Jermaine Fedrick and Jasmine Fedrick; eight great grandchildren; and by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family & many good friends.
Jim was a deacon with the New Gettysburg Baptist Church where he has been a member for many years. He retired from the United States Air Force with over 20 years of service. After the Air Force he went on to work for the City of Dayton (Water Department), Capital Cleaners & Jim's Norge Village. Jim enjoyed fishing, oil painting and traveling.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. Pastor Henry Williams will officiate. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.
