James H. Gray Sr., 89 of Dayton, went to be with The Lord on May 8, 2011 at the V.A. Center, surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 5, 1922 in Detroit, MI. The son of the late Frank and Rosella Gray. He was the oldest of three siblings, Paul and Ray. On June 8, 1944 he was married to Carol M. Finch. He served in the U.S. Army as an Infantryman in WWII, was captured and became a prisoner of war in Moosburg, Germany. After the war, he was employed by DESC in Dayton. He was an active member of the POW organization. Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Linda Shaw and granddaughter, Christy Shaw. He is survived by his wife, Carol M. Gray; son, James H. Gray Jr.; three daughters, Diana Leedy, Lydia Wells, and Paula Holbrook; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren. A public viewing will be held from 12:30pm-1:30pm on Friday May 13, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd, followed by a service at 1:30pm. Interment to take place at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
