James Franklin Compton II

James Franklin Compton II, of Clayton, Ohio, passed away on October 1, 2026, in Clayton. He was born on November 14, 1964, in Ironton, Ohio.

James was known as a hard-working and dedicated man who took pride in both his work and the things he built with his hands. He worked as a Tool & Die Maker until his retirement, bringing steady commitment and skill to his career. Outside of work, he enjoyed woodworking and building and construction, interests that reflected his practical talents and the satisfaction he found in creating and improving things. James always lit up a room with his contagious smile and laughter. 

He is survived by his wife, Sherry (Boggs) Compton, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. He also leaves behind his daughter, Jamie Renee Compton, and his son, James Franklin “Bo” Compton III and his wife, Krista. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Caitlyn, Caleb, Cylie, and Kaiden, who were an important part of his family’s life. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry French; his sister, Robin Walls; his furry best friend, Dax; and numerous extended family members and friends who will remember him with love.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Regina (Browning) French and his father, James Compton.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45424. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Franklin Compton II will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the care he brought to the work of his hands. His life leaves a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him.
