James "Jim" Thomas Childers
October 18, 1949 – April 12, 2026
James Thomas Childers, 76, passed away on April 12, 2026. Born in Pikeville, Kentucky, to Thomas and Bertha Childers, Jim was a man of few words and steady character.
Jim spent 25 years in the trucking industry and was a proud member of Teamster Union 957. He was known for being direct, hardworking, and a reliable anchor for his family. Despite health challenges along the way, Jim inspired so many people around him when he beat a 2 year cancer battle in 2025, a testament to his quiet strength and resilience.
He didn't care for much fluff, but he knew what he liked. Jim enjoyed a good round of golf, sunshine by the pool, trips to the beach, and keeping his Corvette and Jaguar in top shape. On weekends, you could usually find him watching golf or football.
More than anything, Jim was proud of his family. He shared 49 years of marriage with his wife, Sherry, building a life defined by loyalty and hard work.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Sherry; children Lisa Vaughn (Barry), Adam Childers (Dawnielle), and Nick Childers (Samantha); his grandchildren Josh (Tryna), Shelby, Landon, Lincoln, Memphis, and Joplin; and great-grandchildren Dillon, Andrew, and Josh. He is also survived by his sister Sonya Cerron (Richie), nieces and nephews including Tacy Middleton, Tim Foister (like a son), and Jim Foister. And extended family members who were special to him; Sally Foister, Tangy Foister, Jessica Foister, Michelle Welch, and many other family and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
Jim’s impact will be felt for many years to come through the family he led and the lives he touched with his kindness and steady hand.
A memorial service honoring Jim’s life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home- North Chapel. Visitation from 5-7pm with a memorial at 7pm.
