James L. Ballard, age 74, of Dayton, passed away May 14, 2011. He was born July 28, 1936 in Dayton to the late James J. and Mary Ballard. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers: Robert and Joseph Ballard; and son-in-law, Ken Oborne.
Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peg Ballard; children: Julia Oborne, David (Deborah) Ballard, Lori (James) Cahill, Jeff (Anna) Ballard, Janice (Brent) Sipe and Matthew (April) Ballard; twelve grandchildren: Shannon (Jason) McKinney, Heather Oborne, Amanda (Michael) Hart, Sean Ballard, Bridget Cahill, Michael Cahill, Ryan Ballard, Nathan Ballard, Austin Sipe, Lauren Sipe, Megan Sipe and Jacob Ballard; three great grandchildren: Colton, Finnigan and Monroe McKinney; sisters: JoAnn Shaner, Sister Therese Ballard and Carolyn (Joe) Ostendorf; brother, Mike (Sue) Ballard; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force; retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of service and was active with the postal retirement group.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 545 Odlin Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45405. Father John Krumm, Celebrant. The family will receive friends and family immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1293 – H Lyons Road, Centerville, Ohio 45458.
