James Baker, Sr., was born October 19, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio to Mary Jane Reed. He passed away on July 17, 2026 at Englewood Health & Rehab Center, Englewood, Ohio. James attended Edison Grade School and Roosevelt High School. James was a Waste Treatment Operator for General Motors Delphi, and he retired after 32 years of service.
James was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Baker; mother, Mary Jane Loritts; daughter, Robin Baker; sons, James Baker, Jr and Timothy Baker; special grandmother, Virginia Reed; special aunt, Lillian Jackson; and best friend, Willie James.
James is survived by his wife, Rubina Baker; daughter, Donna (Greg) Akeney; sons, Portie’A (Margaret) Baker, Tyrece Baker, and Cleave (Eryca) Baker; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, including other relatives and friends.
James had a heart of a lion that shined bright whenever he smiled. He was a loving, caring, and selfless man who gave of himself and not for himself. He was a proud father, husband, and loyal friend who held the love of his family very close to his heart. He had the strength of a lion, whose roar was quite with patience, but strong and smart. James will be remembered always and forever loved.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 12:00PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering Chapel. Family and friends may visit from 11:00AM until the time of service. A repass will follow at Déjà vu Banquet Hall, 4321 Salem Ave., Trotwood, OH 45406 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM.
