Jacqueline “Jackie” E. Martin, a cherished soul known for her fierce strength and unwavering love, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026. Born on July 26, 1951, in Dayton, Ohio, Jackie carved an enduring legacy rooted deeply in family, resilience, and nurturing care.
From her early days, Jackie displayed a remarkable spirit. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Dayton, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life filled with determination, love, and devotion to those she held dear. Her personality was a unique blend—stern yet tender, strong but infinitely loving—a formidable presence whose love was as palpable as her discipline.
Jackie’s kitchen was the heart of her home. Everyone who had the pleasure of tasting her cooking knew the warmth and joy she infused into every meal. Her cooking remains an unforgettable memory for all who gathered around her table. Cooking for her family was not merely a task but an act of love, a language through which she expressed her deepest affections and nurtured bonds that spanned generations.
Beyond the kitchen, Jackie found solace and satisfaction in her garden, a sanctuary where life flourished under her care. She treasured the time she spent with her family, finding countless moments of joy in their company, weaving memories that would endure long after her passing.
Her passage leaves a void felt profoundly by those who loved her. Jackie is survived by her devoted daughter Chermaine Martin and her beloved son, DaVon Brown, alongside his wife, Tera Owens. Her legacy lives on vibrantly through a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry her spirit forward. Jackie’s brothers, Clifford (Valerie) Byrd and Darryl Byrd, stand alongside these loved ones, joined by many other family members and dear friends who hold her memory close in their hearts.
Jackie now reunites with those who preceded her in death: her father, Harvey Martin; mother, Betty Byrd; stepfather, Robert Byrd Sr.; daughter, Toya Martin; son, Terrance Martin; granddaughter, Alexis Martin; and brothers, Terry Martin and Robert Byrd Jr. Their memories, intertwined with hers, form a tapestry of heritage, love, and remembrance.
In reflecting on Jackie’s life, one sees a woman whose strength was matched only by her fierce love—a matriarch who nurtured, disciplined, and held her family together with an unbreakable bond. Her spirit remains a beacon, forever illuminating the lives she touched with grace, resilience, and heartfelt devotion.
