Jack Richards, age 75, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, surrounded by family at Dayton VA Hospice.
Born on November 15, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio, Jack graduated from West Carrollton High School in 1968. In October of 1968, he began a distinguished military career by joining the US Navy. He trained in Chicago as a diesel mechanic and was stationed on the USS Richland (AFDM-8) in Guam in 1970 where he repaired river boats, Navy destroyers and nuclear submarines. Shortly after he was then deployed to Vietnam repairing river boats on the Mekong River.
After 6 years in the Navy, Jack continued his service by joining the US Army where he proudly served an additional 25 years within the National Guard’s Corps of Engineers and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Jack was an exceptional and dedicated Officer and a true leader whom impacted many lives in the service.
Following his military career, Jack worked at NCR before dedicating over 21 years at Elliott Tool Technologies.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Goldie (Schroder) Richards; son, Sean Johnson; brothers, Donald (Jean) Richards, Gary (Betty) Richards; and sister-in-law, Nan Richards. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Pamela (Grewe) Richards; children, Karen (Steven Spalding) Richards and Eric (Patty Valdes) Richards; grandchildren, Kinsley and Gavin Richards; brother, Edward (Patricia) Richards; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Jack was the kind of person who made everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. He often never left anyone without a smile and a laugh. He took extreme pride in his service for his country, even more pride in the raising and supporting of his loving family, and a strong believer in Jesus Christ.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Southbrook Christian Church, 9095 Washington Church Rd, Miamisburg, OH 45342. Family and friends may visit from 10:00AM until the time of service. Jack will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery where Army military honors will be rendered. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made out to Southbrook Christian Church in memory of Jack.
Jacks’ legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
