Cleo “Jack” Stewart

Jack was born on August 25, 1934, in Morehead, Kentucky, to Cleo and Cora Stewart. Raised with the values of hard work, kindness, and devotion to family, those qualities remained the foundation of his life.

He dedicated many years of service to Dayton Tire & Rubber before retiring in 1980. Retirement gave Jack the opportunity to enjoy the simple pleasures that brought him the greatest happiness. He loved traveling, fishing, hunting, working crossword puzzles, and trying his luck at the casino. He also enjoyed horse and dog racing, and could often be found watching the birds and squirrels outside his window. No matter where life took him or what he was doing, his greatest joy was always spending time with his family.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia “Joyce” Stewart; his son, Jack Stewart; his daughters, Vickey Jacoby (Brad Hoover) and Deborah (Gary) Winkler; his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer (Kelsey) Turner, Lindsey (Russell) Roberds, Joshua Winkler; his treasured great-grandchildren, Kameron Turner, Jaden and Jared Roberds. He is also survived by his sister, Genevieve Henry; sister-in-law Barbara Stewart; his brother-in-laws Henry (Judy) Burgess and Pierce Fuson; many loving nieces and nephews; as well as beloved step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Cora Stewart; parents-in-law, Daniel and Mamie Burgess; brother Jerry Stewart; sisters Virginia Faye, Christine Dunn and Carolyn Fuson; sister-in-law Wanda Jurkiewicz; brother-in-laws Joe Jurkiewicz, J.D Henry and Paul Burgess, nephew Kevin Fuson, and step-grandson Gary Winkler.

Jack’s life was defined not by the places he traveled or the hobbies he enjoyed, but by the love he gave so freely to those around him. He was the steady foundation of his family… a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a loyal friend. His quiet strength, warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering love created a legacy that will continue through the generations he cherished.

Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in the countless memories he gave us and the example he set of a life well lived. He will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be from 11:30 to 1:30 on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio. Memorial service will be held at 1:30. Burial will follow at Dayton Memorial Park.
